The best things to do in Antibes, France
Located along the stunning French Riviera, Antibes is a charming coastal town. It has a historic center, museums and natural beauty. It’s known for its pristine beaches, vibrant market, and the impressive ramparts of Old Town. I’m lucky enough to have a good friend live in the area that I could visit. So, for a week I stayed in Antibes and explored the town and its surroundings. Antibes has a lot to offer, whether you’re exploring the rich art history at the Picasso Museum, strolling on the ramparts, or hiking along the scenic Cap d’Antibes, this Mediterranean gem promises an unforgettable time. In this guide, discover the best things to do in Antibes for your next French adventure.
Best things to do in Antibes
Walk the Cap d’Antibes Path (Ie sentier du littoral)
This wonderful coastal route should be at the top of your list when visiting Antibes. The Cap d’Antibes coastal path offers one of the most scenic walks in the region. Starting from Plage de la Garoupe, the trail winds along rugged cliffs, offering stunning views of the Mediterranean and surrounding coastline. Along the way, you’ll pass hidden coves, luxurious villas, and picturesque pine forests. It’s the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of town. However, only if you’re here in low season or early morning, because it gets extremely busy here in the summer. It’s a popular hike to do and the path is quiet narrow, which can results in a little ‘walking train’ for the entire trail.
Visit Musée Picasso
The Picasso Museum is housed in the historic Château Grimaldi. Picasso used this space as a studio in 1946, and today it features an impressive collection of his works, along with pieces by other modern artists. Since Picasso is one of the worlds most well-known artists, this is a must do attraction in Antibes. The museum’s stunning location overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and is in the old town, so it’s easy to combine with exploring the rest of city.
Walk around Fort Carré
Perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the sea, Fort Carré is a 16th-century fortress with a fascinating history. Originally built for defensive purposes, the fort is now a museum. Visit its ramparts, underground rooms and watchtowers. The panoramic views of Antibes, the marina, and the French Riviera from the top are well worth the climb.
Stroll through old town Antibes
Old Town Antibes, or Vieil Antibes, is a maze of narrow, cobblestone streets filled with history and charm. As you wander, you’ll discover colorful buildings, quaint squares, artisan shops, and local eateries. The town’s relaxed Mediterranean vibe and rich history make it the perfect place to spend an afternoon exploring or enjoying a café along the way. Don’t forget to visit the Chapelle Saint-Esprit D’antibes, which is a cute little church.
Try the Gelato from Gelateria Del Porto
Hands down the best Gelato in Antibes, maybe in the whole French Riviera. I particularly liked the extreme chocolate flavor. In high season there’s often a queue, so if you see a chance, grab it!
Take a dip on La Salis Beach
La Salis Beach is a favorite spot for both locals and visitors looking to unwind by the sea. Its clear, shallow waters and soft sand make it ideal for swimming and sunbathing. Located just a short walk from the Old Town, La Salis offers a relaxing escape with views of the Cap d’Antibes and the distant Alps.
Marché Provençal
The Marché Provençal in Antibes is a lively market where you can experience the flavors of the Provence region. Under its traditional covered hall, vendors sell everything from fresh produce and local cheeses to herbs, olives, and freshly baked bread. The market is a great place to sample local delicacies or pick up ingredients for a picnic.
Walk along the ramparts & See the statues by Nicolas Lavarenne
The ramparts that wrap around the old town are perfect for a morning or evening stroll. The view of the ocean are beautiful and as you stroll, you’ll come across several striking bronze sculptures by artist Nicolas Lavarenne. They are seamlessly integrated into the landscape. These modern works of art provide a creative contrast to the ancient stone walls, adding a cultural touch to your walk.
Poètes Garden
Near the southern end or the ramparts is a tiny little jut out that is the Jardin des Poetes and is filled with palm trees and cacti. Don’t miss it as you walk along the ramparts.
Port Vauban
Port Vauban, one of the largest marinas in the Mediterranean, is a hub for luxury yachts and sailing vessels. With a rich maritime history dating back to the Roman era, it is not just a docking place but also a symbol of Antibes’ nautical heritage. Strolling along the marina, you’ll see some of the world’s most impressive super-yachts. While strolling past the yachts I found it fun to imagine which one I would pick for myself, if I had the money and to judge the names some people gave to their boats. One these yachts had the name ‘Daddy’s Toy’.
Billionaires Bay
Billionaires Bay, or Baie des Milliardaires, is a secluded, crystal-clear cove located near the Cap d’Antibes. This pristine area is known for its exclusivity and is lined with opulent villas owned by the rich and famous. The bay offers stunning turquoise waters and rocky beaches, making it a perfect spot for a peaceful swim. In the summer it does get busy and the water is full of yachts!
